Whether you’re running for President or Dancing with the Stars... it’s all about the DNA!
Genealogy – family history research -- is a vibrantly popular hobby – one of the top-ranked in the country,
according to O Magazine ("Finding my People," April 2007). It's the response to the "other
'Where did I come from?'" question that occurs to just about everyone at one time during their life.
Once steeped in scholarly tradition, interest in family history research now flourishes in our popular culture,
fueled by curiosity, desire for legacy, a quest related to adoption or even for medical information.
But... in a Presidential election or for "Dancing with the Stars"? You bet. The venerable New
England Historic Genealogical Society made national news earlier this year by supplying the genealogies for the
then three presidential candidates, revealing that Barack Obama is related to Brad Pitt. The Society will also
be doing family histories for winners of Dancing with the Stars.
The Society is also hailing long-time Baltimore City residents James and Marianne Carbine’s new book as
"a model of how to write a narrative family history".
The Carbines’ book project began as a family legacy gift. Marianne’s 40 years of research and Jim’s skillful
storytelling of their research findings are interwoven with real events in American history. The four families
united by their marriage are chronicled from the earliest days of colonization to the end of World War II.
